Presenting the HC-SR501 PIR Motion IR Sensor Module, a cost-effective solution that excels at detecting the presence of humans and animals. Equipped with three output pins – Vcc, Output, and Ground – this sensor module is compatible with numerous platforms such as Arduino, Raspberry, PIC, ARM, 8051, thanks to its 3.3V TTL logic output pin.

Once powered (typically at 5V), the HC-SR501 PIR sensor module needs around 2 minutes to calibrate itself. There are two operating modes, Repeatable(H) and Non-Repeatable(L), with the former being the default setting. Both modes’ sensitivity and time duration can be easily adjusted via two orange potentiometers on the module.

In the Repeatable(H) mode, the output pin Dout will go high (3.3V) when a person is detected within range, going low after a set time. If the person remains within the range, the output pin will stay high.

In the Non-Repeatable(L) mode, the output pin Dout will remain high as long as the person is within the sensor’s range. Once the person leaves, the pin will go low after a certain time set using the potentiometer.

The sensor is crafted from two vital materials – a pyroelectric crystal for detecting heat signatures from living organisms and Fresnel lenses for widening the sensor’s range.
